Health and Safety Fail

All across the city of Accra, you are bound to come across failure in health and safety from the construction sites, to advertising boards installation, over loaded cars and the list goes on. Below is a series of pictures taken in the city, can you spot the health and safety failure and comment, and extra kudos for identifying the building or area in the city.

1. Debris falling net around the building is not complete and in some areas it has come off, a wooden case has also falling off ad it is hanging, rubbish chutes broken and also dangerously hanging.
Location: Pro-Credit Head Office Construction (Tesano near Peace Fm)

2. No eye protection, from sparks in sharping the knife, no gloves to prevent cuts from sharpened knife.
Location:  Chop Bar (restaurant under the tree) (Asylum Down)

3. No fall arrest to reduce risk from falling, working so close to the edge without any safety strap, any strong wind or accidental push from the work college would be fatal
Location: Opportunity International (Kwame Nkrumah Circle next to Vodafone)

4. No controlled zone and support at the bottom of the ladder to reduce risk of being hit by the moving traffic
Location: ECG Worker, (Teshie Nungua, First Junction)

5. Working at height, no high-vest, hard hut and fall arrest. There two guys standing on the platform just above the wall.
Location: Plastic Factory (Dome St Johns Road)

6. Fire hazard, combustible materials (empty boxes) damped very close to the generator, where flammable oil is also stored, very close to the building (arson is a high potential here from customers or disgruntled staff)
Location:  Melcom (Teshie Nungua First Junction)

Think safety, and act responsibly.
Carry out a risk assessment to ensure adequate control measures have been put in place.
It the responsible of the employer and the employee and that responsibility can not be passed on.
